Truxton Trust Wealth Management Services (WMS) is seeking a Senior Wealth and Tax Strategist (the Position). We are looking for an experienced Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with specific capabilities that include the development and implementation of advanced tax and wealth planning strategies for high income individuals, business owners and wealthy families. The Position will also be responsible for personal and fiduciary income tax returns for select WMS clients and producing tax reporting deliverables for Truxton managed accounts. The Position is integral to each client relationship and the continued success of our business requiring a self-motivated CPA with a passion for strategic financial and tax advisory, empathy for client objectives and experience in fiduciary and income tax return preparation.  

The Position will work collaboratively with WMS’ Wealth Advisors and Portfolio Managers to provide wealth planning and tax advice to prospective and current clients. The Position will provide ongoing tax and planning education to the broader WMS team. To be successful in this Position, the individual will need a deep understanding of tax, trust and estate laws and must be able to communicate that knowledge in plain English to clients, prospective clients and the entire WMS team. The Position will approach current and prospective clients with a goal-oriented mindset to proactively identify tax and planning opportunities to improve personal and financial outcomes. The successful candidate must demonstrate a natural curiosity for people, advanced financial planning and for the wealth management industry overall.

The Position is responsible for completing internally prepared WMS client tax returns and reviewing outside prepared returns. The Position will often review outside prepared returns for current and prospective clients to discover planning opportunities, to develop a holistic perspective of the individual’s financial world and to ensure the returns are accurate. The Position is responsible for growing tax preparation revenue and maintaining profitability associated with WMS’ tax return preparation services.

The Position will be responsible for managing and overseeing WMS internal tax reporting processes and creation of WMS’ Information Returns (1099, 1099R, 5498, etc.) ensuring accuracy and conformity to IRS reporting standards and deadlines. The Position will ensure and oversee that WMS tax transactions are coded accurately on our trust accounting system (FIS AddVantage) and carried over to our tax reporting system (OneSource). The Position will manage the OneSource and Wall Street Concepts systems ensuring all tax documents are produced accurately and in a timely manner taking into account the treatment for special tax items.

The Position will:

  • Develop and execute strategies that use tax and estate planning expertise to grow and enhance the value proposition of our wealth management business,
  • Demonstrate independent initiative and must be responsive,
  • Develop and oversee the execution of estate planning, tax minimization and wealth transfer strategies,
  • Proactively interact with clients and WMS staff to gather information, resolve tax-related issues with the IRS and make tax recommendations,
  • Manage, review and file tax returns of individual or trust tax clients including federal, foreign, state and local tax returns, estimated payments and extensions and Federal and State tax audits,
  • Serve as team expert on tax, estate, and business succession planning,
  • Research and consult on various tax matters, utilize tax-related software to prepare tax projections, tax returns, and research tax matters,
  • Work within established WMS policies, procedures and guidelines,

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting. CPA required. 10+ years of tax experience including 1040’s, 1041’s, 706’s, 709’s, 990’s, etc.     
  • Thorough knowledge of trusts and estates and individual tax rules.
  • Experience with high-net-worth individuals, S-corporations, C-corporations, partnerships, LLCs, trusts and private foundations is required with the emphasis on high-net-worth individuals,
  • Sophisticated knowledge of fiduciary and estate tax planning,
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and independently under time constraints,  
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work,
  • Ability to use computer, office software, document prep software, &
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
